Chippenham care worker wins excellence award

Tracey Hannam, Activities Co-Ordinator at Ferfoot care home in Chippenham, Wiltshire, has been recognised for her dedication at the recent ceremony held by the Caring Homes Group, ‘Celebrating Excellence Awards 2010’.

Tracey won the award for Outstanding Contribution, as a result of the huge amount of effort she puts into her work, and the wide variety of interesting and exciting activities she organises for Ferfoot residents. Recent activities have included a visit from Sebastian from Jungletalk and a variety of his exotic animals, including snakes, a skunk, a parrot and a very big tarantula.

Tracey says: “Winning this award meant so much to me, as I really do make sure that I always go the extra mile for my residents. I don’t want people to fear dementia, and anything I can do to get the word out that those with dementia can still lead active and happy lives makes all my effort worth it.

“I love my job with a passion, and can’t imagine doing anything else! I will always do everything I can to make sure the residents at Ferfoot are fulfilled, and think it is very important to maintain strong relationships with the wider community. I would like to dedicate my award to John Rhys, a treasured resident who has recently passed away. I would also like to thank everyone else at Ferfoot, for their help and support.”

The Caring Homes Group, the UK’s largest independently owned care home group, introduced the ‘Celebrating Excellence Awards’ to recognise excellent service, commitment and dedication of the company’s unsung heroes, across all spectrums of care. Nominations were received from all the Caring Homes Groups brands; Caring Homes, Consensus, Curate and Cheshire House.

Held at the Radisson Hotel in Stanstead, Essex, the ceremony was hosted by the hilarious and outrageous act ‘ 4 Poofs and a Piano’, who are best known as the house band on BBC One’s incredibly popular ‘Friday Night with Jonathon Ross’. Over 250 members of staff from the Caring Homes Group attended the evening, which also included a delicious three-course meal. A raffle was held to support those affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

Emma Charlton, Group Marketing Director, says: “I would like to congratulate Tracey on her award, it is a real achievement and she should be very proud of herself and the important work that she does at Ferfoot.

“Our staff work so hard throughout the year, and truly do deserve to be rewarded for their dedication. The awards evening acknowledged and celebrated the role of each and every member, and their outstanding contribution, effort and achievements.”
