GORENJE EXHIBITS AT IFA SHOW 2010

Gorenje, the Slovenian manufacturer famed for its creative and unique appliances, challenged the global expectations of design at the IFA Show 2010. Its 500 square metre exhibition area featured numerous innovations that attested to its vision to be a design-minded creator of technologically advanced home appliances friendly to both the user and the environment.

This year IFA was the perfect opportunity for Gorenje to invite visitors to join in with the celebration of the company’s sixtieth birthday. To mark this special occasion, Gorenje launched a limited anniversary edition of Gorenje Simplicity Moonlight appliances at the fair.

Destined to steal the show, however, was Gorenje’s premier application GreenConnected. Harnessing high-tech innovation to deliver energy efficiency, it is an original upgrade to the existing iGorenje system, which allows the controlling of intelligent connectable home appliances from remote locations. iGorenje’s user interface was adapted for use with the iPad and upgraded with a revolutionary smart power management concept called PowerManagement, which optimises the use of power by adjusting the timing of appliance operation cycles. The array of connectable appliances includes a washing machine, an oven, and fridge freezer combo. The latter features another ground-breaking innovation: a battery that is charged during periods of lower power rates to release the power during higher rates, as well as allowing operation in the case of a power supply failure.

A device with a Wi-Fi interface can be employed to check the appliance status and to send instructions from a remote location. Gorenje experts will continue to develop the iGorenje system to include other advantages made possible by smart grids, affording users even better and more economical operation of appliances, both when at home or while travelling.

Moreover, Gorenje’s display at IFA included the new generation of ‘A+++’ class refrigeration appliances. In addition to meeting the requirements of the highest energy class, they feature numerous economical functions and technological advancements, such as improved insulation system, innovative solutions for refrigeration system components, and an advanced compressor, to reduce power consumption to a minimum. The ‘A+++’ appliances presented in Berlin use 60 per cent less power compared to an ‘A’ class appliance.

The Gorenje Pininfarina Titanium Collection also premiered at this year’s IFA Show. Inspired by the power and beauty of the prestigious metal, this is a follow-up to the three highly popular collections from Gorenje’s collaboration with the Pininfarina design studio.

The centrepiece of this year’s exhibition area perhaps best symbolised the spirit of Gorenje’s creativity. One of Gorenje’s flagship products, the luxurious SmarTable, was covered in green turf to introduce yet another possible application of the concept of a refrigerator integrated into the base of a table and accentuate the company’s environmental awareness.

In addition to the above innovations, other Gorenje’s hit collections also worked their charm at the fair. The Gorenje designed by Karim Rashid design line touched visitors with the magic of light and the charisma of its designer and Gorenje’s Retro refrigeration collection glowed in the rainbow of new colours, while the Gorenje Simplicity line impressed with its rational perfection and straightforward operation, for which Gorenje won the Plus X Award in the ‘Ease of Use’ category.

Ruth Ferguson, Marketing Manager at Gorenje, says: “The IFA Show was an excellent opportunity for visitors to discover Gorenje’s creative concept ideas, which unfortunately may not become available in the UK. However, the wide array of unique and innovative appliances presented in Berlin this year bear witness to Gorenje’s commitment to the development of technologically advanced and environmentally friendly home appliances that address the consumer needs with appealing design and innovative solutions.

“Indeed, the pursuit of superior design, innovation, and sustainable development has fuelled 60 years of creativity and established rock-solid foundations for our future business success.”
