Largest UK Chemical Regulatory Conference Heralded A Great Success

SafeCom, the prestigious chemical regulatory conference, and one of the largest European regulatory conference of its nature held in the UK, returned for its twelfth consecutive year on the 30th April.   This year’s event welcomed over 140 attendees from across the globe, including chemical manufacturers, formulators, retailers, stakeholders and regulatory consultants.

The conference brought together a host of regulatory experts and stakeholders covering a range of topics. The line-up included representation from the European Commission, ECHA, CEPE and the EAPCCT, as well as some of the industry’s leading consultants, to clarify the implications of regulations that will impact organisations operating in the chemical supply chain.

The programme delivered key information to help delegates better prepare and develop strategic business plans in the face of changing and complex regulations, including:

  • Article 45 CLP – Appointment of Poison Centres and provision of information relating to emergency health response.
  • The harmonisation of CLP Article 45 from an Industry perspective
  • CLP Article 45 – National Poisons Information Services activity
  • How to request the use of alternative chemical names under Art. 24 of CLP
  • Biocidal Products Regulation changes
  • Changes to CLP Regulations through ATP’s
  • Consumer versus industrial labelling of products for the North American market
  • Changes to UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS)
  • Preparing for REACH 2018
  • Changes being introduced by ADR 2015, IMDG Code 2014 and IATA 2015
  • Placing products on the Turkish market

Delegates also benefitted from the inclusion of an industry exhibition, providing the opportunity to meet relevant service providers showcasing solutions to improve business processes. In addition, delegates were invited to attend a pre-conference dinner, an event which is always popular for networking with peers in a relaxed environment.

SafeCom is hosted by Safeware Quasar, supplier of chemical regulatory compliance software and consultancy services for over 25 years. Simon Robinson, Technical Director, who chaired the conference said: “Once again the conference was a resounding success with superb feedback from all attendees.  In recent years the chemical sector has undergone huge changes resulting in an increased workload and some confusion in the industry.  The presentations delivered a concise summary of current situations emerging from the regulatory changes, and will act as a guide for delegates who attended to know and understand what they should be doing, and the areas of concentration for the upcoming year.”

And the date has been set and the venue booked for SafeCom 2016.  The next SafeCom is to be held at Eastwood Hall Hotel, which is set in 26 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in the attractive village of Eastwood on 10th and 11th May 2016.
