Whirlpool UK Employees Volunteer in Local Community

Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited employees have dedicated over 180 hours to volunteering in Peterborough, as part of the Whirlpool Community Week initiative that took place from 17th September to 21st September 2018.

Voluntary work is a Whirlpool EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) initiative, which began in 2017 in Pero, Italy. This year, the initiative has grown considerably and, in the EMEA region, more than 500 employees took part with 27 non-profit organisations, for a total of 4,000 hours dedicated to volunteering.

Based in Peterborough, Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited – parent company to KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Hotpoint and Indesit – worked with Sue Ryder, FoodCycle and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Fourteen colleagues maintained the garden area of Sue Ryder’s Thorpe Hall Hospice, and 10 employees helped with the Guide Dogs for the Blind’s Low Vision Day event, which took place at DeafblindUK in Peterborough. A further 11 volunteers assisted at FoodCycle’s Peterborough Project, a UK charity fighting food waste and food poverty, to create three-course meals out of surplus foods, whilst eight colleagues gave the FoodCycle Peterborough Project’s kitchen area a deep clean.

Ian Moverley, UK Corporate Reputation and Public Affairs Director, Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited, says: “At Whirlpool UK, we believe it is important to support the local community. Our employees were keen to get involved with the Community Week initiative and dedicate time volunteering in our local area. We would like to thank Sue Ryder’s Thorpe Hall Hospice, FoodCycle and Guide Dogs for the Blind for the tireless work they do in caring for our community. We were all delighted be able to give something back.”

Miriam Emmanuel, FoodCycle Events Fundraising Manager, says: “The team of volunteers from Whirlpool did a brilliant job deep cleaning our kitchen at FoodCycle Peterborough. They were enthusiastic and extremely thorough, leaving our kitchen sparkling clean. Their efforts mean a lot to our regular volunteers who serve nutritious meals to the community using surplus ingredients each week”.
