Bryan Lovewell, Chief Executive of retra, represented the radio, electrical and television retailers’ association at a recent House of Lords committee meeting.
The House of Lords Communications Committee invited Bryan, and representatives from other industry associations, to discuss the digital switchover of radio in the United Kingdom.
Bryan provided the Committee with information regarding analogue radio recycling and the progress in trade of digital radios, as well as discussing the need for clearer information for retailers and consumers regarding the digital radio switchover.
The other representatives at the hearing were Jaqui Devereux, Director of the Community Media Association, Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, and Laurence Harrison, Director of Consumer Electronics at Intellect.
Bryan says: “The invitation to speak at a House of Lords committee meeting clearly shows how highly retra is regarded. I am very proud to have represented our industry at the House of Lords and at the start of the discussions regarding the communication of digital radio switchover. The committee meeting was the perfect opportunity for retra to fight the case of the independent retailer, and inform the government that we need more information if we are to have a smooth digital radio switchover.
“Speaking at the committee meeting was certainly a real adrenaline rush, but an opportunity that has proved invaluable. It is clear that independent retailers are going to be at the forefront of the digital switchover, and so it will be important to keep abreast, and hopefully influence, any developments in terms of policy or strategy.”
