Yelverton care worker wins excellence award

Chris Avery, Head of Care at Cedar House care home in Yelverton, Norwich, has been recognised for his dedication at the recent ceremony held by the Caring Homes Group, ‘Celebrating Excellence Awards 2010’.

Chris won the award for Unsung Heroes, as a result of the huge amount of effort he puts into his work, and the compassionate, friendly and understanding way he treats Cedar House residents.

Chris says: “Winning this award means a great deal to me, and is a real honour. I have worked for Caring Homes for 12 years, and have enjoyed seeing the company grow and develop. I work with a great team, and the superior standard of care that we provide would not be possible without their support and hard work.

“I particularly enjoy talking to the residents and learning about their lives, as well as meeting their families. I think it is important to organise as many trips and interesting activities as possible, to ensure that the residents enjoy their time with us as much as they can.”

The Caring Homes Group, the UK’s largest independently owned care home group, introduced the ‘Celebrating Excellence Awards’ to recognise excellent service, commitment and dedication of the company’s unsung heroes, across all spectrums of care. Nominations were received from all the Caring Homes Groups brands; Caring Homes, Consensus, Curate and Cheshire House.

Held at the Radisson Hotel in Stanstead, Essex, the ceremony was hosted by the hilarious and outrageous act ‘ 4 Poofs and a Piano’, who are best known as the house band on BBC One’s incredibly popular ‘Friday Night with Jonathon Ross’. Over 250 members of staff from the Caring Homes Group attended the evening, which also included a delicious three-course meal. A raffle was held to support those affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

Emma Charlton, Group Marketing Director, says: “I would like to congratulate Chris on his award, it is a real achievement and he should be very proud of himself and the important work that he does at Cedar House.

“Our staff work so hard throughout the year, and truly do deserve to be rewarded for their dedication. The awards evening acknowledged and celebrated the role of each and every member, and their outstanding contribution, effort and achievements.”
